XV’s debut album for Warner Bros. Records, Zero Heroes, is set to release tomorrow. After receiving a lot of praise following his release of Everybody’s Nobody in 2009, this Kansas rapper ignited, teaming up with the likes of DJ ill Will and Rockstar, Talib Kweli, Mike Posner, Wiz Khalifa, and Kanye in the years since. “Famous”, the second single off of this project, features an impressive melodic voice in Jazmine Sullivan, another Midwest native, and Sez Betters adds a light-hearted verse. I was really impressed with some of the production I’d heard from XV, and this song kept with the standard. All in all, there aren’t many other stories about the infamous struggle for fame that are this optimistic, or have this nice of a sound. The self-named “kid with the green backpack” released a trailer for the album earlier this month, which features a snippet of “When We’re Done”. In this track, X to the V raps over a sample of “Sanctuary” by Utada Hikaru, a song made famous in my childhood favorite, Kingdom Hearts II. It’s worth a listen:
