Star Slinger’s refix of “Ready for the World”

27 Apr

Keeping in harmony with his recent production, Star Slinger is back with another tune to add to his repertoire of great remixes. This time, he put his unique spin on “Ready for the World” by How to Dress Well. The thing that has truly hooked me about Star Slinger’s style is his amazing ability to preserve the authenticity of a song while adding his elegant, refined sound. This Manchester magician deserves praise:

As a “thank you” to all of the devoted fans that helped make Dodge & Fuski’s recent Come Again EP such a success, the team at Never Say Die Records have posted a new remix by them to be downloaded for free!

The bootleg of David Guetta’s “Love Don’t Let Me Go” can be downloaded here.

Flying Lotus x Blu — one of my favorite alternative hip hop collaborations

11 Apr

The duo has a new song entitled “Everything’s OK.” In this track we hear both Blu and Flying Lotus embrace a new progressive sound and run with it.

This is the sound that Flying Lotus has been leaning towards as of late. If you’re familiar with his recent release “Pattern + Grid World,” then this beat will not catch you off guard.

With a thus far mixed reaction to this song, I still think that the beat is fun and Blu and Jack Davey do a great job of keeping up with its chaos. Have a listen for yourself below.

This is not the first time they have worked together. Below I’ve added a couple of the songs they have collaborated on (Blu’s remix of Flylo’s “GNG BNG” has got to be one of the sickest tracks I’ve heard in a long while).

Star Slinger — “Close to Me” and Video

11 Apr

A favorite of ours here at Tunes, Star Slinger provides us with his visual representation of “Close to Me”, his collaboration with producer Teams. Unlike his euphoric “Mornin’” video, this piece plays on the cautions and insecurities people have with strangers in a peculiar, clever way. It does this wonderful tune justice in perfectly fitting fashion, despite its pure oddness. Star Slinger and Teams’ recent team-up EP is up for download here. Give the video a look here.

Also, here’s Star Slinger’s remix of Alex Winston’s “Sister Wife,” in which I think our ever consistent producer does a wonderful job taking advantage of the song’s rich vocals and replacing the acoustic guitar with a relaxed synth and some nice punchy rhythms:

Childish Gambino — March releases

28 Mar

Early this month on the 8th, Donald Glover gave us his EP for free. If you haven’t heard it, I recommend it HIGHLY. Seriously, this release was absolute fire. His lyrics have reached new heights in word play and he has some beautifully structured melodies as well. Download the EP for free at the link below:

We’ve already heard the banger “Freaks & Geeks,” (along with the Star Slinger remix), but besides that, this EP gives us 4 additional songs which all are insane. My favorite happens to be the final track, “Not Going Back.”

Well, in addition to this amazing EP, Glover has just released a single entitled “The Longest Text Message.” According to his twitter, this song was written and recorded during a drunken Thanksgiving night. Props to him because this song is fantastic. Download it HERE.

The Legend of Zelda — new trend in the electronic music world?

14 Mar

At the end of last month, I made a post about upcoming dubstep tracks. Among that list was a song called “The Hero” by an up-and-comer, appropriately named Nostalgia. It featured an intro sampling the old-school theme song to the video game classic, The Legend of Zelda. We can expect that song to drop later this month on Play Me Too Records.

Now we have another EDM song to look forward to coming out this month featuring the legendary sample.

Zedd, an extremely hard working electro house producer, made famous by a couple of high profile Skrillex remixes, is now giving his fans a blast from the past. On Bazooka Records, he’ll be releasing his single “The Legend of Zelda,” along with Electrixx’s remix of it on March 21st. I have yet to hear the Electrixx remix, but it’s sure to be sick considering some of their fiery electro house tunes in the past like “Tetris” and “Tokyo Rush.”

Here’s a clip of Nostalgia’s dubstep take on the Zelda theme:

This is Zedd’s electro house take on it:

And just for fun…here’s Deadmau5′ old mix of “You Need A Ladder” which used this sample for an intro:
