Plasmapool Records on a roll in the Beatport charts

12 May

The up-and-coming electro house focused record label has been having a great few months. Their success is greatly attributed to Mord Fustang’s first Beatport release, “The Electric Dream.” Since then, Mord has put out a few more popular singles, the most recent of which, “Lick The Rainbow,” is selling at #3 in all of Beatport.

Plasmapool also has the coveted #1 spot on Beatport’s main chart with Hypster’s “The Uprising.” This song samples the epic orchestral “O Fortuna.” You’ll recognize it as soon as you hear it.

Go pick up these singles on Beatport.

Noisia — “Shellshock” (music video)

12 May

Noisia’s album, Split the Atom, was a huge step forward in the drum & bass world. It had a multi-genre aspect seldom seen in projects prior to it, with heavy influences from the electronica and breaks subgenres.

One of the strongest songs on the release was “Shellshock,” with great help from the seasoned drum & bass and dubstep rappers, Foreign Beggars. Here’s the new music video…

Two new huge remixes by Dirtyphonics promoted by UKF

7 May

If you’re new to drum & bass and dubstep as genres, one of the first artists you must check out is Dirtyphonics. They’re known for their hard-hitting drum & bass, and you get absolutely no shortage of that here in their Skrillex remix. I can only imagine how much confidence an artist must have when they attempt to remix Skrillex’s choppy and chaotic tunes…well Dirtyphonics have put their heads together and created one of the best drumstep remixes around. This is likely my favorite remix of Skrillex ever done.

While they have mainly produced drum & bass in the past, they are now starting to make some of the strongest contemporary dubstep around. Just listen to their new remix of Does It Offend You, Yeah’s single, “Wondering.”

The Stones Throw Records crooner, Aloe Blacc, did big things when he released his Good Things LP. “I Need A Dollar” became an instant success, achieving Platinum and Gold sales in Switzerland and Germany respectively. All in all, his R&B style won over the hearts of just about everybody. Now his whole LP has reached Gold status in France, so lets just keep our fingers crossed that Aloe Blacc can keep up this winning streak.

Tyler, The Creator — more from Thurnis Haley

5 May

I already showed you guys his first installment as Thurnis…well now Tyler has a couple more videos of the beloved ‘golf wang.’

I like these because they coincide with the whole Odd Future formula of making their own stuff (in this case, advertisements and promotions for his new LP,Goblin) very simply but with their own goofy spin.

Take a look at part 2 and 3

Childish Gambino’s take on Odd Future, The Weeknd, and whats to come

5 May

Hip Hop Update held an interview with Renaissance man Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino after a show he held in Los Angeles on April 27th to promote his upcoming IAMDONALD LP.

After getting a snippet of his stirring, energetic performance style, Gambino goes on to discuss a rap group at a similar stage in their musical development as himself, OFWGKTA, and up-and-coming R&B soloist The Weeknd, among other things. Despite having just finished a show, Gambino still conducts himself with the same cheer and wit that is reflected in his music. Check it out:

Black Cobain ft. Wale — “4AM” (music video)

5 May

Yet another Virginia rapper has graced us with a product of his creation. This time its Black Cobain, giving us the visuals to “4AM”, a song produced by Tone P, featuring D.C. native Wale. This video shows the artists cruising, smoking, and flowing away a black and white New York night. It brings to the surface a lot of similarities between the styles of the two rappers, but also shows the versatility each has to offer.  Here it is:
